Total Market Cap for NFTs Are On An Uptrend

If you zoom out and look at a chart of the market cap for NFTs, it's hard not to be uber-bullish about its potential. This sector has grown to ~$11B in market cap in the past two years and seems to be on an uptrend after having a sideways year in 2022.

Perspective: NFTs are still just 1% of the total market cap for crypto today ($946B).

Happy Birthday, Azuki! You're 1 year old.

💲 What to know: Today is the one-year anniversary of Azuki, a PFP project that was launched on Jan 12, 2022.

To celebrate this, Azuki dropped its teaser for Hilumia, a growing city shaped and built by the community. It's not the airdrop that many were expecting, however.

☘️ In the weeds: If you go to the Hilumia website, you'll see an incredibly-detailed animated city with various buildings, including a greenhouse, a gym, a toy store, an arcade, and more. We suspect this is an updated roadmap for Azuki in the coming year and indicates a few new lines of businesses: gaming, toys, and clothing.

The most interesting venue in the city is Love Island: "64 Azuki enter the Love Island compounds...two winners are selected....competition to find the garden's most eligible Azuki". It's almost like they're going to produce a reality TV show...

Besides the website, no other details have been released. This has led to rampant speculation from various Azuki members.

🤑 Why it matters: Azuki has seen its fair share of controversy in the last 12 months. Its founder Zagabond confessed to abandoning several other NFT projects before starting Azuki.

Despite that, it has thrived and become the 3rd most expensive PFP by floor price (15 ETH / $21,000), after Bored Apes and CryptoPunks. It has broken away from other well-funded NFT teams, such as Moonbirds and Doodles, and appears to be following its own separate trajectory.

It's a wonderful comeback story, showing the strength of community coupled with beautiful art and great vibes can lead to success. We're excited to see Azuki build out even more cool things in 2023.
