Jimmy the Monkey... is Going to Jail?

💲 What to know: Yuga Labs released more details about the latest storyline, the Trial of Jimmy the Monkey. This sparked a spike of buying activity on Bored Ape assets, especially BAKCs, which have moved from 6 - 8E in the past few hours (see chart)

🪙 In the weeds: This arc kicks off with a short trailer, which shows a monkey (Jimmy?) receiving a treasure chest with a glowing key. Unfortunately, another monkey accidentally swallows the key and the rest go on a mission to retrieve it from his...intestines.

Yuga teased that details within the video are important, so people will be scrutinizing it closely. This is the start of a series of activations in 2023. Other key dates include:

  • Dec 28: Mysteries revealed

  • Jan 11 : Mint Guide released

  • Jan 18 : Mint begins

  • Feb 8 : Mint reveal

This will be a free mint for BAYC/MAYC holders. The highest tier of NFTs will go to BAYC + BAKC holders (Tier 4). Other tiers are BAYC only (Tier 3), MAYC + BAKC (Tier 2) and MAYC only (Tier 1).

🤑 Why it matters: Yuga Labs has been relatively quiet in recent weeks, and this new development is something many community members have eagerly been waiting for. Yuga is known for keeping things as surprises till the last minute, so no one really knows what the mint is going to be for until January. The slick website and fully-animated trailer indicates that the Trial of Jimmy is not just a sideshow, but will be an important part of the Bored Ape lore and brand.

Yuga Labs' recent actions continue to cement its lead as the biggest NFT ecosystem today. Yesterday, it announced that it has brought on Daniel Alegre to be its CEO — he is the exiting COO at Activision-Blizzard (creators of World of warcraft) and the previous head of Google’s Retail/Shopping division globally. It speaks volumes that someone of Daniel’s caliber is joining Yuga Labs. 

All hail Daniel, soon-to-be king of the Apes.
