Magic Eden is launching a loyalty program for its users.

๐Ÿ’ฒ What to know: ME's program includes future rewards and fee discounts. This is the first loyalty program by a major NFT marketplace using a more traditional, non-tokenised approach.

๐Ÿช™ In the weeds:  Every 1 SOL of volume = 5 Magic Points. There are 5 different levels (0, 250, 1250, 7500, 50000 points). So you need to transact 10000 SOL / $130,000 in volume to reach the highest tier of rewards. Points reset every month.

Level 5 = 45% lower fees + airdropped NFTs as rewards (to be determined)

๐Ÿค‘ Why this matters: By targeting volume while offering lower fees to power users (hence less revenue), Magic Eden is signalling that volume/GMV growth is its most important metric. This move is somewhat surprising to me because Magic Eden is already by far the dominant marketplace on Solana in terms of market share (see chart), thereโ€™s not a lot more for it to capture. Perhaps it sees a credible competitor on the horizon

 Donald plays his Trump card

๐Ÿ’ฒ What to know: Mr ex-US President released his official Trump trading card collection yesterday. There's even a commercial for it (below)

There are 45,000 cards in total, sold out at $99 each. They are trading at 0.26E (~$280) now, with >2000 ETH in strong secondary volume. The majority of owners hold 1 - 3 NFTs.

๐Ÿช™ In the weeds: Each card is automatically entered into a raffle, with prizes including private meetings with Mr Trump, golf sessions, zoom calls, hand-signed cards and more. Those who bought 45 NFTs get a guaranteed ticket to a gala dinner with him.

๐Ÿค‘ Why this matters: Trump has built more utility into this collectible than many other NFT projects. Whatever your political views, anyone can spend $99 for the opportunity to meet Trump or $4500 for a guaranteed invite. He raised $4.4M in a day. This is just the start of a huge wave of celebrities utilizing NFTs as social tokens and a means to better connect with their fans.

There's been a lot of backlash from mainstream media about this move, however. "Whoever told Trump to do this should be fired", posted a number of Trump supporters on Twitter. Money from the sale goes straight into Mr Trump's pockets under a licensing deal and does not go to support his presidential campaign. It seems that he has been more focused on his personal efforts rather than the presidential campaign.
