🦄 Mocaverse, the Great Membership NFT Experiment

It would be a major loss of face if such a big believer in NFTs were to fall flat on its own NFT project.

GM. We hope everyone's having a happy Friday. Despite all the FUD going around today in the news outlets, crypto and NFTs are still doing pretty well. Let's get right into it.

The Cult of Gary Vee Is Strong AF

The number of diamond-handed collectors (i.e. people who minted and never sold their NFT) is a soft indicator of the strength and conviction of a community. It takes great faith to hold on to your NFT through all the volatility we've seen in the past year.

Yet, 69% of VeeFriends NFTs have never been sold, topping the list. It's safe to say that the cult of Gary Vee is strong AF.

Mocaverse — The Great Membership NFT Experiment

💲 What to know: Animoca Brands (AB) is one of the OGs in the space and a big believer in digital property rights & the metaverse. AB has a growing portfolio of 380 projects in Web3, from games to esports and marketplaces. A few prominent investments include Yuga Labs, OpenSea, Cool Cats, Axie Infinity & Dapper Labs.

Mocaverse is AB's first official membership NFT, with a goal to unite the Web3 community through shared purpose and values. Sounds lofty?

☘️ In the weeds: Mocaverse features 8,888 Mocas which are PFPs and membership passes. In the collection, there are 5 tribes (Dreamers, Builders, Angels, Connectors & Neo-Capitalists) and 4 realms (Learn, Build, Play & Do Good).

Initially, Mocaverse was reserved only for AB's investors, employees, and portfolio companies. However, they just announced that will be opening it up to community members as well.

Two main ways to get in:

  1. Holding eligible Animoca Brands Ecosystem tokens

2. Holding eligible Animoca Brands Ecosystem NFTs

    Eligible holders receive Realm Ticket NFTs, which function like a raffle ticket. Winners will be randomly selected among Realm Ticket holders to join the Mocalist and receive 1 free mint and 1 paid mint.

    The snapshot date for eligibility is Jan 12 (8am EST), less than a week away.

    🤑 Why it matters: Mocaverse is probably the largest membership NFT experiment today. Many eyes will be watching and learning from this. This is not your typical PFP that's launching with just a roadmap, empty promises, and lots of coffee.

    Animoca Brands is a behemoth of a company, valued at $5.9 billion during its last fundraising led by Temasek in September 2022. They are also raising a $1 billion metaverse fund this year — a mighty feat in the bear market.

    We expect AB to put the weight of its influence and brand power behind its project, building out valuable utility for its community. After all, it would be a major loss of face if such a big believer in NFTs were to fall flat on its own NFT project.

    Definitely, one to watch out for this month.
