Market Update — Quiet Easter Weekend

The Forkast 500 NFT index, which keeps an eye on top NFT collections, dipped just a tiny bit, around 1%, compared to last Friday. This small drop suggests that popular PFP NFTs are still going through a cooling-off period.

The Easter weekend was pretty chill in terms of price changes among the leading NFT collections. So, if you were hanging out with friends and family, enjoying the holiday, you didn't miss much in the NFT world. Hope you had an awesome time!

Pixelmon, A Comeback Story We Love

💲 What to know: Pixelmon is the latest comeback story in NFTs.

Over the past week, floor prices have surged 60%, now at around 0.6 ETH each.

☘️ In the weeds: Pixelmon's initial launch in February 2022 was marred by controversy, as it managed to sell out 10,000 NFTs at 3 ETH each, raising approximately $70 million. However, it soon became apparent that there was no real project or game behind the NFT collection, and the founder was revealed to be inexperienced and relying on artists from Fiverr to create the Pixelmon art.

This massive deception led to Pixelmon being labeled one of the biggest rug pulls in NFT history. It even created lots of memes, like Kevin below.

Since then however, Pixelmon was acquired by Liquidx Studio in September 2022, with @GiulioXdotEth as CEO. Most importantly, the mint funds ($50M) were also transferred to the studio.

Liquidx Studio has assembled a team of over 60 experienced game developers and designers to create a AAA game that the Pixelmon community was initially promised. The alpha game teaser has generated excitement, and the game is expected to have a demo in Q3 2023, with the full release slated for early 2024.

Here's the teaser of the alpha game, which looks pretty dope.

Meanwhile, there's a staking game that allows you to earn additional NFTs before the game launches. You can stake Pixelmon trainers together with Pixelmons in order to earn rewards like serums and in-game equipment. Future Pixelmon evolutions will be happening later this month.

BTW we're not the only ones excited about Pixelmon:

🤑 Why it matters: Pixelmon's comeback story demonstrates that even projects with a dark past can be revitalized and find success in the NFT space with the right leadership, dedication, and community support.

Pixelmon has all the elements of a great comeback story — a headline-grabbing past, a large treasury/runway and a dedicated team. If you believe the Web3 gaming is going to be big, it's definitely one to watch for.
