Wreck League, the next big Web3 game?

Wreck League is Web3’s first AAA fighter game: like Super Smash Bros met Mad Max. Picture this: a post-apocalyptic world where the only rule is there are no rules. Welcome to the demolition derby of the future!

Wreck League was developed with Animoca Brands and nWay studio, and will be available on mobile, PC & Mac. Players can use NFT-minted parts to build unique mechs (think Transformers, but cooler) for some intense player-versus-player fighting game action. And when we say unique, we mean it - with 10 distinct NFT parts making up each mech, there are over 1.5 quadrillion possible combinations.

Mechs can be disassembled, their parts repurposed or sold on marketplaces, allowing for endless customization and unique gameplay styles. Players can compete for on-chain prizes, with the more mechs you build and compete with, the greater your rewards.

Check out the gameplay footage that went out less than 24 hours ago:

Yuga Labs is the collaborator for Season 1, and so BAYC, MAYC, BAKC & Koda NFT holders will be able to claim a free Founders Mech NFT.

Mint #1 will happen in August, involving boxes that contain mech parts of different rarities. In order to join the allowlist and play the game, you need to go through a KYC process on their website which is open today. The mint appears to be unlimited, so it’s going to be for players more than speculators.

The first gameplay access opens in September. A free-to-play version will launch later, allowing mech NFT owners to manufacture in-game mechs for sale as in-app purchases.

Wreck League encourages player-created content. A special community program, the Wreck League Social Club, will be launched to reward and encourage co-creation. Their roadmap includes further minting events, gameplay access, and tournaments.

It’s worth noting that nWay’s last big hit was another fighting game called Power Rangers: Legacy Wars in 2017. You can see some similarities in the design and it’s clear they’re hungry for their next big hit. Historically, mobile fighting games have always been a challenging genre, and difficult to monetize.

🤑 Why it matters: We’re in dire need of a Web3 game that can truly capture the hearts and minds of gamers. Wreck League is not something that’s years away, but just weeks away.

It’s a novel fusion of Web3, esports, and competitive gaming that allows players to take ownership of their characters.

We’ve always believed that gaming is the trojan horse that will bring more people into web3. Will Wreck League lead the charge forward?
